The challenge
A Fortune-500-serving AV company can't run quotes through a regular Shopify cart. Their orders span six figures, multiple product lines, customer-specific pricing tiers, multi-location installations, and approval workflows that need to live alongside the existing Shopify catalog and payments.
Off-the-shelf quote apps in the Shopify ecosystem couldn't handle the complexity. Brightlink needed a custom app — embedded in Shopify Admin, with its own data model, business logic, PDF rendering, and email pipeline — that still respected Shopify's product catalog as the source of truth.
Approach
Built with Shopify's Remix template + App Bridge + Polaris. Authenticates via Shopify OAuth, runs inside Shopify Admin. Custom app extensions ship with the app.
Designed and migrated a Prisma schema covering quotes, customers, customer spaces (project sites), payment tiers, line items, approval state machines, and audit logs.
Shopify OAuth for merchant access; Clerk + Google OAuth for customer-facing flows exposed via App Proxy. Single coherent identity story across both surfaces.
Quote PDFs rendered with Puppeteer from branded React templates. Sent via Nodemailer with Google OAuth2 — emails arrive from the merchant's actual domain, not a third-party sender.
BullMQ + Redis handle async work (email sending, PDF generation, Shopify webhook processing) without blocking the admin UI. Failed jobs retry with exponential backoff.
Recharts-powered dashboard surfacing quote volume, conversion rate, payment-tier mix, and pipeline status. Live data from the Postgres schema, no third-party analytics dependency.
Groq SDK integration for AI-assisted quote drafting — speeds up first-draft creation for the sales team while keeping a human in the loop for approval.
